Bulgarian Hydrogen Society was found on 16.07.2003 in Sofia by Ministry of Defence of Republic of Bulgaria, University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy (UCTM) and Bulgarian Academy of Science (BAS):
The major purpose of the Fund is to support the general activity of BG H2 Society, the field of science and education in Hydrogen Technologies. The Fund is responsible for: building a structure for management of funds aimed in Hydrogen Technologies; design of a programme for funding of activities and projects in the field of Hydrogen Technologies; supervision and control over the funds for the Hydrogen Technologies. The Fund is the principal financial source of the National Programme “Hydrogen Technologies – Hydrogen Economy” as well as the programmes of the European Hydrogen Association.
The Fund is governed by the Board of Directors of the Society according to its by-laws.
The Fund resources are collected from: grants, charity events, membership fees, Bulgarian State Budget, European funds, other sources according the Bulgarian laws.

Since its establishment in 2003, BG H2 Society has been working in collaboration with the Central Laboratory “NATO – Defence Technologies” within University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy, which is also a contractor with the Society in a termless framework contract for cooperation.
The Laboratory was found in March 1989 and its initial name was “ELCHIM Engineering” with director prof. Nikola Lingorski. Since 1993 the Laboratory is headed by prof. Tzvety Tzvetkov.
In 2003, one year after the admission of Republic of Bulgaria in NATO, the laboratory was officially opened under the name “NATO – Defence Technologies” by the Ministry of Defence Mr. Nikolai Svinarov and the Military and Air-force Attaché of USA in Bulgaria, col. Carla Baas.

In 2004 it was signed a framework contract for principal cooperation between Bulgarian Hydrogen Society, with President prof. Alexander Popov and the Ministry of Environment and Water with Minister Mrs. Dolores Arsenova.

In 2004 it was signed a framework contract for principal cooperation between Bulgarian Hydrogen Society, with President prof. Alexander Popov and the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism with Minister Mr. Milko Kovachev.
BG H2 Society is a key partner of “NPP-Kozloduy” Corporation in the field of nuclear safety. BG H2 Society fulfils the main projects within 6th and 7th Framework programmes of European Commission, funded by the programme EUROATOM, for the benefit of “NPP-Kozloduy” Corporation.

At the beginning of 2010 it was signed a framework contract for principal cooperation between Bulgarian Hydrogen Society, with President prof. Alexander Popov and Ecoproject Ltd., presented by its President Mr. Atanas Ivanov. The cooperation is in the application of the Oxyhydrogen Technologies in the field of defence, security, industry and life.
Ecoproject Ltd. is an engineering company, specialized in the field of water and sewage systems, water treatment plants, and renewable energy sources. The company has been focused on the application of the Hydrogen Technologies since the last year and it is a member of the Business Committee of BG H2 Society.
To associate and coordinate the work of all national, state, public and private Bulgarian research and development organizations, involved in the field of Hydrogen technologies with the European Hydrogen Association and related organizations worldwide, including NATO structures;
To consult and advice the high state authorities and institutions, the activities for incorporation of the advanced achievements of Hydrogen technologies in the country defence, national economics and into the everyday life;
To organize, coordinate and assist methodologically, with information and funding its associated members to participate in international and national scientific events, thematically related to the Hydrogen technologies
To inform the Bulgarian public about the advantages and benefits of hydrogen as an alternative, pure and economically effective power source. To make popular in Bulgaria the world experience in the field of the hydrogen technologies.
